It’s impressive to see him assemble this tool with the ease of preparing a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Despite all the din of ‘survival’ shows and celebs nowadays, Kochanski has quietly remained one of the true masters of bushcraft over the years. Watch and learn.

Amazing – what a gem. A “frustrated”, “hickey”-inducing string sounds far more difficult to work with than he makes it look.
Must take lots of practice to get as good as he is at making a quick bow.
I can remember reading his book, Bushcraft, as a kid in the 80′s, with the same awe and fascination as I’d had reading about spaceships and Star Wars. He shows that one can be just as ingenious with ‘primitive’ materials, as one can be with modern technologies.
I was lucky enough to get a spot in Mors Kochanski’s ‘final’ course (so it was said) in New Hampshire last November (2007). I have posted a series of photographs and details about the course I took, it was an amazing experience that I will always remember:
