Duluth musher John Stetson has dropped out of the Iditarod competition. He had pulled Zaster, one of his dog athletes, on Friday due to illness. The dog perished of pneumonia Saturday while in the care of veterinarians, prompting Stetson to end his race effort.
Blake and Jennifer Freking of Finland, MN, are still in the race, holding 55th and 56th positions as they pass the Nulato checkpoint (just over halfway through the course.)
