Check out our collection of Vintage Wildlife Illustrations, a new set in the UpNorthica Flickr Pool. I’ll post about respective authors another time, but the pen and ink illustrations and overall page designs really deserve appreciation. Enjoy, there are more to come.

There is something about the tactile, journalistic feeling the old naturalist engravings give. I feel as though I’m holding something brief and lovely encountered, drawn right on the trail. Drawing takes the viewer down to the sometimes otherwise, unseen elements of a picture. My sense cue into what is rough, soft or wet. Unlike a photo, drawing allows us to imagine. What might the colors be like? Did the morning feel cold or cloudy? Was it spring or fall?
Beautiful.

Andy, I have some stuff you’re going to want to see; perhaps we could photo it and post it on your site…
