On sentencing for three BWCA shooting suspects

Probation to nine months’ jailtime for three of the BWCA shooters: Long enough? Not likely.
Three-year period in which they’re banned from entering the BWCA: Long enough? Thirty would be too short.

Agreed. What they did to those poor campers will change those campers forever. I don’t think they deserve to ever be allowed back into the BWCA. They lost that privilege.

If the same crimes had been committed in the Twin Cities metro area, I bet the punishment would be different.

An interesting observation. When shootings occur in urban areas, it’s said that the neighborhood is devastated; meaning that those living near the crime scene feel as victims also. But what I can’t get away from, is the notion that the BWCA as a place that is precious – even sacred – is itself a victim along with those unfortunate campers. I’m only grateful that at least in my knowledge, this was such an isolated incident.
