GPS-Enabled Trail Running Shoes?

If you could use GPS technology to track your movements in the wilderness, without actually carry the unit around? Yeah, why not?

The GTX Corporation has gotten a patent for just that: GPS-enabled trail running shoes. Originally used in footwear for wandering Alzheimer’s patients, the concept has spread (as good ideas are prone to do.) While there only appears to be limited info available now (and certainly nothing about when these will hit the store shelves) I’m finding myself GPS *hiking boots.* Only, they’d have to stand up to a good share of wading ankle-deep at portages. Well, some day in the future, about the same time we all have personal jet packs… Via Gear Junkie.
