The US Forest Service announced today that that there will be reduction in the online fee when you make a permit reservation.
The original cost is currently $12.00. Starting March 1, 2011, it will will be reduced to $6.00.
The Superior National Forest has collaborated with an independent contractor for a while to make the online reservation system more efficient. This reservation fee is separate from the regular user fee, paid to the USFS which goes towards educations services and the maintenance of trails and campsites.
Another transformation will be blending of the BWCAW reservation service with the National Recreation Reservation System, grouping all federally owned lands together.
As a result, the BWCA lottery system operation should see efficient results. Taking only 30 minutes to run, confirmation letters are then posted via email without delay.
The system will be user-friendly, allowing online cancellations, altering group size and allowing payments before permit pick-up.
The BWCAW call center and customer service number has merged with the National Recreation Reservation number, expanding call hours. Questions? They can be contacted at: 1-877-444-6777.
