Authorities are searching for a missing man in the eastern BWCA’s Swan Lake.

23-year-old Ty Sitter left his father and brother to go fishing around 7pm on Thursday. By late that evening, the Janesville, WI. man still hadn’t returned to camp. His group eventually located his canoe (with about 4 inches of water in the bottom) with tackle box, net and life jacket still aboard, but Sitter and his rod were not.
Paddling to the trail head, they enlisted help.

Teams from Cook County Sheriff’s office, the USFS and a State Patrol copter have since been combing the area over the weekend. Their search resumed this morning after a brief respite last night.

We at UpNorthica are watching the story closely and will post any relevant updates. May all our prayers and thoughts accompany the searchers and Mr. Sitter’s family.

UPDATE: Sadly, it has been reported that Mr. Sitter’s body was found this morning in 90-100 feet of water. While the body itself has not been recovered, a discovery via sonar equipment has led authorities to believe they have positively identified it.
